There's a phrase tucked into the subtitle of my book - Notes from a Country I Never Quite Left - and the longer I sit with it, the more I think it's not really about Romania.
It's about the way places stay with us. The way a smell, a word, a tone of voice can pull you back across an ocean in a single second. The way you can build a whole life in Cincinnati and still feel, on some quiet Sunday morning, that part of you is walking down a street in Bucharest.
That's the country I never quite left. And it turns out, judging from the conversations I've had over the past two years while writing this, that I'm not the only one who lives that way.
So I'd love to invite you to spend an evening with me.
The evening
On Thursday, June 4, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, I'll be at the Symmes Township Branch Library for a book signing and conversation around To Romania, with Love: Notes from a Country I Never Quite Left.
The shape of the night is informal:
A short reading. Two passages, eight minutes, with a breath in between.
A conversation, moderated by two friends, about memory, travel, history, and belonging.
Time afterward to sign copies, catch up, and linger.
We'll also be joined by Dan Ozarchevici, Honorary Consul of Romania in Florence, Kentucky, who'll open the evening with a few words on behalf of our Cincinnati and tri-state Romanian community.

A note about books
The library has a rule against on-site sales, so books won't be sold at the venue. You're warmly invited to:
Bring your own copy for signing
Pick one up in advance on Amazon(opens in new window)
Or, if you'd like me to bring a hardcover for you, let me know through the RSVP form
If you can't be there in person but would still like a signed copy, the form has an option to request one by mail.
Please RSVP
A quick yes-or-no would mean a great deal — it helps me plan the room, the hardcovers, and the conversation:
You can also browse a short description of the book at ToRomaniaWithLove.com(opens in new window).
One more thing
What I'm really looking forward to isn't the reading or even the signing. It's looking out at a room full of faces I know — people I've shared dinners with, argued with, laughed with, and built a life alongside in this city. If you can make it, I'd be so grateful. And if you can't, the RSVP form keeps the door open.
See you on the 4th.
